Pregnancy update: I am 22 weeks today!

Well today I am 22 weeks pregnant! I am so excited for the preschool we just started and the fact that I am feeling so good. Oh, and looking really pregnant! Sorry about the iPhone photo…we didn’t have the camera handy!

Me 22 Weeks

Pregnancy and Toddlerhood AND Preschool!

Here are some fun activities Karli did during our last week of transition to preschool for Shelby. Below, you will see Karli is trying to learn how to cut. It is her current favorite, yet she gets so frustrated. I love her determination! (You will notice the girls almost always have at least one (if not two) of the headband bows in their hair. It is their favorite accessory!)

She decided to ixnay the cutting-ay and take on the puzzle. This is a Melissa & Doug puzzle that we LOVE! I use it for teaching any chance we get. You can remove the picture and work on patterns, or turn the picture over and color your own animal (it comes with 10 templates I believe?)

She wanted me to take her picture again. So I was a good Mommy and I did :)

Karli M&D Puzzle #2

Did I mention she is a total ham? This is another day (clearly not in “jamas” anymore). She literally posed for this. Hilarious.

Now on to our transition to preschool. Shelby had to work through her boxes each day. It gave me an idea of what she liked/disliked and how much she enjoyed completing at one sitting. We continued with our Goodnight Moon theme and I discovered her intense love for cutting any piece of paper she can get her hands on. She can count to 20 but gets hung up on 12-14 so we really worked on our counting more than anything else. I used a blue highlighter to make the cutting lines thicker for her little hands to follow. There were stars (which I cut up) and numbers. 15 of each. You place stars in the sky, she counts them and then places the correct number in the little box. She loved this and we will be doing it again and again I am sure! {The links to the Goodnight Moon printables can be found in last week’s post: 21 Weeks Pregnant.)

Such satisfaction! Shelby Goodnight Moon counting

She has recently developed a love for lacing. She used to hate it unless I was holding it for her, handing her the thread and then telling her what hole to lace it through. As much fun as that was. {Note, I do realize she needed to learn how to do it. But she knew, did it sometimes, but didn’t like it. So we set it aside and revisited this past week.} I helped her get started… Shelby lacing with my help

And she proudly finished! {I was much more laid back and didn’t bother saying “Oh no, it should go here, okay, now go here.” So I am sure this was more fun for her!} Shelby Lacing Yay!

And on another day she sat down ready to do some worksheets. She is hit or miss on these so I try to do more toys/reading with her. She is after all, only 3 1/2 so I don’t pressure her. But, if you start a sheet you have to finish (even if I hold your hand and we do it together). Look at her intensity! Shelby Tracing Goodnight Moon

I bought a few Kumon work books to mix in with our preschool routine. Again, since this was our transition stage I was seeing what she liked/didn’t like. She loved the cutting book and shocked me by her love for the color by numbers book! She didn’t understand why she was only coloring one number at a time. But I colored the outside of each area so she could color inside. She totally rocked it! Shelby coloring star

She squealed with such delight: “Mommy, I colored a star! The shapes make a big star!” Shelby completed star Here she is lacing again. And guess what, she didn’t need my help at all! Not even once :) We use this Lauri set for lacing and puzzles. We love them! Shelby lacing on her own

Some of my preschool must-have resources:

All About Learning Pre-Reading program - We use this each week in conjunction with our preschool curriculum.
ABC Find It
from 1+1+1=1 – This is currently Shelby’s favorite “fun learning time” activity.
Goodnight Moon printables - This is the theme we just wrapped up.
Melissa and Doug Puzzle - We use this nearly every day!!

What’s coming up

This week I have a doctor’s appointment. That’s all! We are working on Valentine’s themes this week and will be making Valentines for Shelby and Karli’s friends!

When did you start your little one in preschool?

Comments

  1. First, I can hear you say, “no, no it should go here…” with lacing. Go, mama, for shutting your trap. ;)

Second, love Shelby’s looks of concentration.

Third, I want that puzzle Karli was working on!
